Bad deadline, lots of code to write… Then the screen of my music laptop went black.

A external monitor confirmed the video card was fine. Actually, the screen would flash some messages briefly as it started the bios, leading me to believe it was the lid-sensor that was the culprit, with the screen turned off as soon as the lid-sensor system was started, and the screen itself being fine. Now, like a proper bachelor I keep small screwdrivers with my pens (and pencils, scissors, needle-nosed pliers, scalpel, super-glue…) in some plastic cups next to my table. Screwed the thing open to clean, short or remove the sensor (depending on whether it was dirty, broken, normally closed or normally open).

No sensor in sight and I didn’t feel like opening the hinges and the screen itself. Instead I closed up again and moved the screen back&forth a few dozen times. Now it’s fine again.

“Beware of programmers with screwdriveres”, they say.
